Industry Advisory Board Meeting 2024

On February 14th, 2024, Jagdish Sheth School of Management (JAGSoM) hosted the Board of Studies (BoS) meeting for the sales & service career track chaired by Professor Rakesh Mediratta, Chair of the sales & service career track and Joint Director at JAGSoM. The meeting was attended by JAGSoM faculty as well as industry stalwarts.  JAGSoM proudly welcomed Mr. Chandru Kalro (MD, TTK Prestige), Mr. Rajesh Dave (VP – Sales & Trade Marketing, Naturell India Private Limited), Mr. Mahesh Puri (Designated Partner, Reliant Imports and Distribution Solutions LLP), and Mr. Balaram Bhattacharjee (VP – Sales (India & South Asia), Yoga Bar (Sprout Life Foods)) as its advisory board members for the sales and service career track to the BoS.

The advisory board members lauded JAGSoM’s innovative approach of ‘learning by solving,’ emphasizing the importance of experiential learning through tackling real-life business challenges. They highlighted the significance of tailoring education to specific industry roles rather than generic business functions, endorsing JAGSoM’s focused career tracks designed to prepare students for specialized positions within the sales domain. These role-based career tracks incorporate curated courses developed in consultation with industry experts, equipping students with the skills and knowledge required to excel in their chosen roles. A key aspect of JAGSoM’s curriculum is the integration of capstone projects, where students tackle genuine industry problems sourced directly from companies.

The advisory board members provided invaluable insights to refine these courses, ensuring alignment with the dynamic and ever-changing trends in sales and service industry. They emphasized the crucial link between industry and academia, stressing the need to adapt to the constantly evolving demands of the industry by aligning the curriculum to industry needs. Finally, there was recognition of the growing importance of analytics as a decision support tool in sales, as well as the critical role of consistent brand communication and storytelling in creating a successful sales organization.
